While all dogs still receive regular exercise in our cemented fenced runs, they can also have some TLC along with that exercise! We’ve recently fenced in our grassy back yard where dogs will enjoy supervised play time with Frisbees, tug toys and balls. These play times are offered with those who play well together and individually. We also offer daily walks around the block and the meadow that surrounds our property. For those puppies with a sweet tooth, we offer a peanut butter ice cream treat (Frosty Paws) at bedtime which the dogs love! These new services have seemed to lower the stress level for the dogs and make their stay much more fun!
Dogs: $25.00 per night – MPCC has 21 run style kennels to accommodate medium to large dogs and kennels for the smaller breeds. Your dog will be given access to the exercise pad 4 times daily. The following is a breakdown of the most common preventative services that we offer.
A complete physical exam is very important to your pet because on the average your pet ages 7 years to our 1. Changes in body conditions can occur rapidly and need to be evaluated by a veterinarian. When diagnosed in the early stages of onset many diseases can successfully be treated before permanent damage is done to your pet.
Fee: $52.00 for Adult Pets and $16 for Puppies and Kittens

Per the June 2005 recommendations of the American Heartworm Society, we recommend yearly heartworm antigen testing in dogs and cats. The AHS also now recommends year round use of heartworm preventives in dogs and cats. We carry several different products for the prevention of heartworm, intestinal parasites, fleas and ticks. We will help you choose the appropriate product(s) for your pet’s lifestyle.
Heartworm 4DX Test is the only in-house test that screens for heartworm and three tick-borne diseases at once, including canine anaplasmosis, ehrlichiosis, and lyme disease.
Since the most common clinical signs are hidden, all dogs should be screened.
Dogs exposed to any of these diseases are at risk of becoming sick. Unfortunately, pet owners aren’t aware of infection until their dogs become seriously ill. Testing helps you detect exposure and infection, and reinforces the importance of tick control. It also allows us to treat your dog before the infection becomes active.
- DHPP-CL: $29.50
- LymeVax: $29.50
- Bordetella: $24.00
- Heartworm Antigen Test: $40.00
- Heartworm 4DX Test $49.00

Traditionally, we waited until pets were 6-8 months old to schedule their alteration. More recent studies suggest no adverse effects when pets are sterilized at a much earlier age; MPCC offers sterilization surgery as early as 2-3 months of age. With our strict preanesthetic protocols and careful attention to anesthesia and patient monitoring, these procedures are safe, and the smaller patient size means an easier surgery as well as a quicker recovery.
If an emergency arises during normal business hours do not hesitate to rush your pet in to us. If an emergency occurs after business hours and is life threatening, we are recommending the U of M emergency services. Call 612-625-9711 for the University of Minnesota or the Animal Emergency Clinic in Oakdale at 651-501-3766.
After the initial kitten series is completed we will customize your cat’s vaccine protocol based on your cat’s risk factors. For low risk, indoor only cats this will involve vaccination at 3 year intervals. We also recommend periodic testing for Feline Leukemia (FELV) and Feline Aids (FIV). This new protocol is endorsed by the American Association of Feline Practitioners along with Cornell Feline Health Center. We have several products available for the prevention of heartworm, intestinal parasites, fleas and ticks for cats and we will help you choose the appropriate product(s) for your cat’s lifestyle.
We also offer a discounted package price for annual or semi-annual blood and urine screening for early detection of liver or kidney disease, diabetes and other common disorders. These panels are somewhat variable depending on the age and risk factors of your pet, but basically include a Complete Blood Count, a Chemistry Panel and Urinalysis with an Early Renal Disease Detection test. It may also include thyroid testing and/or x-rays for older cats and dogs. Since our pets rarely complain about not feeling well, this is a cost-effective way to screen for disease before the pet becomes symptomatic and has a real problem. Early treatment for any of these conditions dramatically improves the life-span of the pet.
Virulent Systemic Calicivirus (Calici-VS) is a relatively new, more deadly strain of the traditional feline calici virus which we have been vaccinating against for years. Within just a few days of exposure this virus can cause severe upper respiratory signs as well as systemic signs of illness and often death. The virus is easily spread by people carrying the virus on their clothes and shoes, so the best protection for your cat against this deadly virus is vaccination. The vaccine is $17.00 per dose and initially requires a 2 vaccine series given a month apart then a yearly booster.
- PCR-Calici VS: $23.00
- FELV Vax: $24.25
- FELV Test: $45.00
- FIV/FELV Combo Test: $50.75
- Bordetella: $24.00
- Calici-VS: 17.00 (per dose)
- Rabies: $18.50
- Fecal Test: $25.50

In many procedures, the laser can replace the scalpel and provide a better alternative to traditional surgery. Laser technology reduces the trauma to your pet, improves recovery and often shortens hospital stays. The laser seals nerve endings and blood vessels as it moves through tissue so your pet feels less pain postoperatively. Laser energy does not crush, tear or bruise. The laser sterilizes tissue, killing bacteria that may cause infection.
Among other surgeries, the laser is ideal for declawing cats. We see a much quicker recovery and fewer complications in cats declawed using the laser.
The laser works very well for all routine surgeries but is particularly useful in removing small warts and other skin tumors.
Medical exam services start at $69.00, depending on the extent of the problem that your pet will need to be seen for. In the past we would refer you to the U of M for advanced diagnostic and surgical services. Although that option is still available, you have the option of having the specialist come here to MPCC for diagnostic and surgical services such as:
- Orthopedic surgery
- Digital Dental X-Ray
- Echo Cardiogram
Modern communication capabilities have provided us with access to many Board Certified Specialists around the country for cardiology and internal medicine consultations.
Maplewood Pet Care Clinic ensures that you are receiving the best possible care as we have equipped our facility with the following:
- IV pumps to deliver intravenous fluids
- Heated kennels to ensure optimal body temperature
- Isolation ward to prevent the spread of infectious deseases
- Small animal x-ray unit and automatic processor
- In-house laboratory
- Laser Surgery Unit
- EKG and pulse oximeter monitor
- Digital Blood Pressure Monitor
Per the recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control, we also recommend regular deworming and/or regular fecal exams for the detection of intestinal parasites in dogs and cats. Some animal worms can be spread to humans, particularly small children, thus making internal parasite control in our pets especially important.
- Intestinal Parasite Exam: $25.50
- Cat Deworming: $10.00 – $16.00
- Dog Deworming: $10.00 – $ 35.00 +
The first time your pet receives a Rabies vaccine it is good for one year and then is boostered at 3 year intervals. Fee: $18.50
Maplewood Pet Care Clinic has taken great care in setting up our surgical suite and protocols for the safety of your pet. We believe that certain precautions need to be taken before general anesthesia is administered. We will provide you with a surgery quote and an in depth brochure that will walk you through your pet’s surgical procedure. All pets undergoing surgery will be continually monitored by a veterinary technician as well as a sophisticated monitor for the following:
- Oxygen saturation in the blood
- Pulse Rate
- Respiratory Rate
- Blood Pressure
Every patient is evaluated on an individual basis; the anesthetic drugs used are carefully chosen and specifically calculated based on your pet’s age, sex, weight and breed. Safety of your pet is our main concern here at Maplewood Pet Care Clinic. Every time a pet is anesthetized there is always some risk involved. Following specific, documented protocols we feel the risk of anesthesia can be minimized greatly.
